Admission

Requirements for Admission

Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine desires applicants for admission who have completed a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.  A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is also required; and basic computer literacy is desirable.

 Provisional Admission

As an exception, the College may accept students with at least two years (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of general education at the baccalaureate level that is appropriate preparation for graduate level work, from a regionally accredited institution.

If the College accepts a student with only 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours, the institution will determine that the hours taken should prepare that student for success in the graduate study offered at the institution.  In these instances, Provisional Admission on a case-by-case basis may be granted to an exceptional candidate who does not meet the College's minimum standards for admission.

A candidate who does not meet the College's requirements for admission may be considered by the Admissions Committee and admitted provisionally based upon the Admissions Committee's determination that the applicant demonstrates characteristics generally considered desirable in candidates for admission to the College's program of study, evidences a suitability for graduate-level study of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, and has successfully completed a minimum of 60 semester hours or the equivalent in quarter credit hours in a regionally accredited institution of higher education prior to consideration for provisional admission.

As a condition of Provisional Admission, the candidate may be asked to submit to a personal interview with representatives of the College and/or to enroll in and pass, with a grade of "C" or better, one or more courses at an accredited college during the candidate's first year of enrollment in the program.

All students who are provisionally admitted must acknowledge in writing that they understand that their first year of matriculation at the College will be carefully monitored, that they must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.00, and that should he or she fail to fulfill the conditions of Provisional Admission within the allotted time, the College reserves the right to cancel that student's registration and terminate enrollment immediately.

Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP)

Students who are admitted who have not earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution are required to take the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency objective test in Critical Thinking and Science as one condition of Provisional Admission during their first trimester of enrollment at the College. The purpose of the test is to measure the student's collegiate achievement level, to assess the student's general education competencies, and to enable the College to advise the student how to maximize the graduate experience and achieve academic success in our program.
