Our core TCM faculty received their TCM training at colleges and universities in either Taiwan (Republic of China) or the People's Republic of China.
They received, at a minimum, master's degrees, meaning that they completed five years of college and two to three years of graduate study before entering an internship program at a hospital. Each member of our faculty has experience in teaching traditional Chinese medicine in both Chinese and English languages to domestic and foreign students.
Our bio-medical sciences faculty were selected for their expertise in the required subject areas. Prospective students are welcome to attend a class as a guest before enrollment to confirm the preeminence of the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and its faculty.

Dr. Maoyi Cai has served as a board member of the Acupuncture Committee of Alberta, Canada, since 2003. He was also the Dean of Academic Affairs at Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, between 1997 and 2005. Dr. Cai passed the American and Canadian medical licensing examinations, and was certified as an M.D. in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Between 1990 and 1996, Dr. Cai taught a variety of biomedical science courses at colleges and universities in Texas and New Mexico. Dr. Cai practiced medicine, in the Shanghai Medical University, from 1984 to 1990. Dr. Cai joined the faculty of the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in January, 2006. |

Dr. Cao joined the TCTCM faculty in January of 2007, brining with her over ten years of experience as a clinician, instructor, and researcher in Traditional Chinese Medicine. She has published in journals such as Traditional Chinese Medicine Research and Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine on Digestion and has edited volumes such as Methodology of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine. She holds a Distinguished Visiting Professor Acupuncture License from the State of Texas.

Yong Cui, Lic.Ac. Director of Clinic StudiesMaster of Medicine in Prescriptions of TCM, Shandong University of TCM Doctor of Medicine, Shandong University of TCM Prior to joining the faculty of the Texas College of TCM, Cui served as Assistant Lecturer (1992-1997) and Lecturer (1997-2001) at Shandong University of TCM, teaching TCM courses to both native Chinese speakers and English-speaking students. His teaching is enriched by eight years' experience at Shandong University's Affiliated Hospital. A published author, Cui also served as researcher and Vice-Chief Editor of Modern Research and Application of Prescriptions of Compendium of Chinese Materia Medica (Ben Cao Gang Mu), and Practical Prescriptions for Apoplexy. Cui teaches Fundamental Theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Meridian Theory, Point Location I-III, Treatment Modality of Acupuncture I-II, and Clinical Internship courses, and has been a member of the faculty at Texas College of TCM since 2001. |

Mu has taught TCM at the university level since 1984, serving as Assistant Lecturer and Associate Professor at Shandong University of TCM, and as Professor at Menesze Medical University in Brazil prior to joining the faculty of Texas College of TCM. Mu was an acupuncturist in the affiliated Hospital of the Shan Dong University of TCM for 15 years. Mu's publications include four books: Traditional Chinese Medicine and Changes; Chinese Ear Acupuncture; Dictionary of TCM in Chinese and English; Acupuncture and Moxibustion, and four research papers: Clinical Research of Coronary Heart Disease with Ear Acupuncture; The Relationship Between Auricular Heart Point and Heart Organ - 60 Case Reports; The Review of Auricular Acupuncture Research in Western Medicine; and The Effect of Electro-Acupuncture at Auricular Heart area on the Electrocardiogram and Cardiac Function. A recipient of many honors from various professional organizations, Mu is also member of the China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (the most authoritative professional TCM organization in China), the Jinan Research Institute of the Human Body, and the Texas Association of Acupuncturists. His current teaching assignments include: CPR and Emergency Techniques, Special Needle Techniques, Clinical Observation I-II, Meridian Acupoint Energetics, Treatment Modality of Acupuncture I-II, Scalp and Ear Acupuncture, and Clinical Internship. Dr. Zheng served as Assistant Professor (1986-1995), Associate Professor (1995-2001) and Associate Dean (1998-2001) at Shandong University of TCM. He is a member of the China National Committee of Chinese Medicinal Formulae, paper reviewer of Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Journal of Shanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition to his more than 20 years of teaching, research, and clinical research experience, Dr. Zheng has almost 20 papers and books of TCM published in both Chinese and English. He is currently teaching Herbology I-III, Prescriptionology I-III, Internal Medicine of TCM, TCM Gynecology, Clinical Patent Medicine, Practical Herbal Formulas, and Warm Disease Theory. Dr. Zheng's teaching and research address the treatment of gynecological disorders, pain syndromes, and Immune disorders with herbal formulas and acupuncture. Craig Williams studied Chinese medicine and Western herbs with Michael Tierra before pursing a master's degree in Oriental medicine at the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in New Mexico. While there, he also studied TCM diagnosis privately with Ping Chen, author of a well-known book on diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition to his studies in TCM, Mr. Williams has also studied ayurveda with Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico. A professional member of the American Herbalists’ Guild, Mr. Williams earned his Master's in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and undertook a private tutorial in ayurveda with Dr. David Frawley shortly thereafter. He currently operates a private practice in Austin, Texas, specializing in gynecology, and serves as a clinic supervisor at the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. |

Dr. Blakey has over twenty five years experience in University and Corporate Education as well as Government, Non-Profit, and Business Corporate Research. She has also served as a Consultant and has facilitated various trainings.
In 2007, she served as a Faculty member in Virginia College's Paralegal Program in Austin, Texas. Prior to this she served for three years as the Legal Program Chair and Psychology Faculty at Austin Business College and as an Assistant Professor at Southwest Texas State University where she taught Health Research in the graduate school as well as a graduate seminar in Program Evaluation and Health Policy Research. Dr. Blakey developed and taught courses in Advanced Multivariate Health Data Analysis, Research Methods in Allied Health Science, Statistics for the Health Sciences, Human Resource Development, Evaluation and Research. Among the other assignments held by Dr. Blakey are a National Institute of Mental Health Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Nebraska (1992-1994) where she researched psycho-legal procedural justice principles in the prevention of perinatal HIV, evaluation of statistical scientific evidence and judicial training centers, and professional ethics.
From 1991-1992 she served as a Visiting Faculty Instructor at Trinity University's Psychology Department Dr. Blakey has also been an Instructor for the Department of Environmental Services in Naples, Florida (Collier County Government), Edison Community College in Naples, Florida, and the Chrysler Corporation Training Institute in Highland Park, Michigan. From 1981-1986 she served as a Teaching Assistant at Wayne State University's Psychology Department and College of Life-Long Learning. Prior to this (1976-1977) she served as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Missouri's Psychology Department.

Anthony A. Caprio, M.D.

Dr. Caprio came to Austin in 2005 following a distinguished 30+ year career practicing Ambulatory Pediatrics in Nutley, New Jersey. Since 1978, Dr. Caprio had held the position of Clinical Instructor with the Department of Pediatrics at the New Jersey College of Medicine in Newark, New Jersey, giving him a strong background in continued medical education and a keen awareness of the needs of medical students and physicians in training. He planned regular lectures and provided clinical guidance on many topics in Pediatrics, utilizing his clinical experience from training at many teaching medical centers including: Flower Hospital-Medical College of Ohio at Toledo, 1973 Mulenberg Medical Center-Rutgers Medical School, Plainfield, NJ, 1974 Children's Medical Center, Newark, New Jersey, 1975 Martland Medical Center, New Jersey College of Medicine, Newark, NJ, 1976 Since coming to Austin, Dr. Caprio has developed and taught an Applied History of Modern Clinical Medicine for the Lifetime Learning Institute in Austin, Texas.

During his formal education, Dr. Gu has pursued his interest in classical Chinese philosophy and literature, and devoted himself particularly to the study of Taoist texts. In 1991, he founded the Tai Chi and Chi Kung Meditation Center in Austin, where he has continued his studies and teaching of tai chi and qi gong. Dr. Gu teaches qi gong at Texas College of TCM. |

Dr. Guo earned her Ph.D. degree in Biological Science at University of North Texas, with a concentration in Experimental Neurobiology; her Master of Medicine degree in Clinical Research, Cardiac Division of Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medical College, China; and her Bachelor of Medicine (U.S. Equivalent M.D.) at the Medical Department at Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medical College, China. She has also done advanced study as a World Health Organization Fellow, concentrating on Cardiac Electrophysiology (Arrhythmia and Sudden Death) Cardiac Division, Oklahoma Health Science Center. Her professional experience includes: Texas State Certified Acupuncturist/Instructor; Texas State Licensed Acupuncturist (since 1994); Instructor at Texas Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (now Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine); and Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neurobiology, Department of Biological Sciences, University of North Texas. Dr. Hsu had twelve years' teaching experience prior to becoming an instructor at the Texas College of TCM. Among her previous teaching experiences are four years as a professional tutor in mathematics, chemistry, and biology, three years teaching biology at the secondary level in Taiwan, and seven years as a teaching assistant at the University of North Texas, where she earned her Ph.D. in Immunology/Parasitology. Dr. Hsu has five professional publications to her credit, including Eosinophil Response in Mice Infected with Trichinella spiralis or T. pseudospiralis as Measured by Lysophospholipase activity; Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay in the Measurement of Antibodies to Neisseria gonorrhoeae Detergent Soluble Antigens; and A Simple Method of Drying Virus on Inanimate Objects for Virucidal Testing. Allen L. McMurrey, MA., comes to us from the University of Texas Austin where he is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Policy and Planning. Allen earned his Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas San Antonio (2004) and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston (2000).
Allen's professional background involves teaching (K-12) in Houston, Galveston and San Antonio and serving the Educational Service Center: Region XIII as a School Completion/Dropout Specialist. Allen has served as an educational consultant for several local school districts and the Texas Association of School Boards. Throughout his career Allen has earned several teaching awards and has been involved in several major academic publications regarding teacher quality and school improvement.

A specialist in TCM diagnosis, Li has taught TCM for over 18 years in China, the U.S., and Russia. He served as Deputy Director at Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Visiting Scholar at Michigan State University, and Associate Chair at Hunan College in China. He has extensive clinical experience and numerous publications to his credit, including: Chinese Therapeutic Methods of Acupoints, Theories of Chinese Medicine from Traditional to Modern, Teaching and Study of Diagnostics of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The Principles of Diagnosis and Treatment in Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Diagnostics, Exercises of Diagnostics of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The Reference of Diagnostics of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Diagnosis and Differentiation of Traditional Chinese Medicine. From 1985 to 1988, Dr. Pan was an instructor in herbal medicine at Suzhou Medical School and has served as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin since 2003. A recipient of the first individual National Research Service Award postdoctoral fellowship awarded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Pan's research has included the study of ginseng, cardiovascular physiology and diabetes. Dr. Pan is the author of 12 research publications, including: Ginseng's effects on glucose tolerance and mRNA animal model of type II diabetes; Effects of pharmacological interventions on emetine cardiotoxicity; and Effects of 6 weeks of panax ginseng on triglycerides and mRNA in an animal profiles in an model of type II diabetes. Her teaching assignments include Biomedical Pharmacology, and Hygiene, Public Health and Referral Modalities. Dr. Pan has been an instructor at Texas College of TCM since 1995. |
